TENOM: Preacher and entrepreneur Ebit Lew, 41, has been ordered by the Tenom Magistrate’s Court to enter his defence after the prosecution established a prima facie case.
The decision was made by Magistrate Nur Asyraf Zolhani, with Lew represented by lawyers Datuk Ram Singh and Mohamad Chinki.
Deputy public prosecutors Nor Azizah Mohamad, Analia Kamaruddin and Muhammad Hidayat Wahab presented evidence throughout the trial.
Lew faces 11 charges under Section 509 of the Penal Code for allegedly insulting a person’s modesty.
The court has scheduled the defence hearing for November 11–13, 24–27, and December 1–4.
Proceedings will continue on those dates before a final ruling is delivered.
Earlier, Ram Singh said the defence would carefully review all prosecution evidence before presenting its case, adding that the long-running matter has gone through multiple hearings and is now entering the defence stage.
