PITAS: A 41-year-old man died after he was believed to have fallen from a bridge when the Mitsubishi Mirage he was driving skidded while crossing a wooden bridge at Jalan Kampung Masin here early Friday morning.
District police chief Supt Simiun Lomudin said the incident at about 1.30am left the victim, identified as Beriuse Masikah, with severe head injuries after the vehicle lost control while travelling from Kanibongan towards Kampung Narandang on a straight gravel road in dark conditions.

He said the victim was believed to have attempted to get out of the vehicle before falling beneath the bridge, and was pronounced dead at 2.45am at the scene by Hospital Pitas medical officer Dr Shella Wong before the body was sent to the hospital’s Forensic Unit for a post-mortem.
Meanwhile, district fire station chief Noor Jali Maslah said six firefighters led by PBK I Gabuh Maradan were dispatched to the location, about 22 kilometres away, after receiving an emergency call at 1.34am, and retrieved the victim from the river using a stretcher before handing him over to the police.
