LABUAN: Sarawak-owned AirBorneo’s plan to fast-track expansion plans with more jets and new routes is commendable as it will boost tourism and trade.
But the airline should not ignore enhancing its ticketing service.
“The airline in operation for nearly a year is still not like what MasWings was before as it had yet to establish offices in major towns nor has appointed specialised agents.
“Many senior travellers are confused and clueless when purchasing discounted fares on the domestic route,” said retiree Bryan Tan.
Citing an example Bryan said the seniors two-way fare for the Labuan-KK sector was RM280 compared to the regular fare of about RM400.
“It is a substantial saving for the pensioner but purchasing it was a problem because it was unavailable online and could only be purchased over the counter and there is uncertainty of being successful.”

He said such fare on MasWings could be purchased five days in advance without fear.
Discounted fares are offered to those aged 60 and above and popular with the low budget seniors.
Bryan hoped AirBorneo would look into the issue without delay. “I believe surely it’s not the airline’s intention to deny such bonus to deserving passengers.”
He said it was economic sense to have all seats in the aircraft filled than some empty if the ticket sales system was efficient.
