Tenom: Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) chairmen across Sabah have received a pay rise this month, increasing their monthly allowance from RM800 to RM1,000 following a State Cabinet decision in recognition of their frontline roles in rural communities.
State Rural Development Minister Datuk Rubin Balang said, however, that the increase is still not sufficient.
“As the minister responsible for this ministry, I want them especially the JKKK chairmen to receive more worthwhile remuneration. Although the increase from RM800 to
RM1,000 is still not enough, we hope it can be improved further in the future,” he said.
He said this to reporters after officiating the 3rd Triennial General Meeting of the Persatuan Dayak Okolod Borneo here.
Rubin said the pay rise is an initial step by the state government to safeguard the welfare of community leaders, in line with their growing responsibilities.
JKKK chairmen are increasingly tasked with coordinating welfare assistance, disaster management, and implementing community development programmes in their respective villages.
He said he is confident that strengthening the JKKK institution would improve service delivery to rural communities across the state.
