LABUAN: A supermarket here has been compounded by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) for using an expired measuring device in its business operations.
State Enforcement Chief officer Amiluddin Malang said checks by enforcement officers found the premises was using a linear measuring device for goods sold by metre that had not been re-verified.
He said the device’s certification had expired on Sept 21, 2025 but was still in use during inspections carried out on Wednesday.
The offence falls under Section 14 of the Weights and Measures Act 1972, which requires all measuring instruments used for trade to be verified before use.
“If convicted, offenders may be fined up to RM10,000 or jailed for up to one year, or both,” he said.
KPDN Labuan reminded traders to ensure all weighing and measuring devices are duly verified to guarantee accuracy and protect consumer rights.
