PENAMPANG: The water supply situation in Timpangoh Laut, Kampung Sugud, has become increasingly critical following prolonged dry weather.

Penampang Warisan Division chief Jeffrey Leiking said gravity-fed water sources in the area have dried up due to the lack of rainfall.

He urged the state government to immediately supply treated water to villages in the district that still depend on gravity-based systems.

He said residents of Kampung Timpangoh Laut had requested emergency assistance for clean water last week.

“In response, we collected donations and delivered mineral water to 50 families last Friday,” he said.

However, he stressed that ensuring a consistent supply of treated water remains the responsibility of the state government and local leaders.

He said Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) chairmen in affected areas should closely monitor conditions and report urgent needs.

“Any request to deliver treated water must be acted on immediately as it involves the health and safety of residents,” he said.

Jeffrey also raised concerns over water quality, urging authorities to ensure supplied treated water is safe for consumption.

He said complaints had been received over a strong chlorine smell in previously delivered water, adding that health authorities should monitor pH levels and overall quality.

He said Penampang Warisan would continue monitoring the situation, adding that the aid mission was joined by several party representatives.
