Composure under pressure encouraging sign for Rhinos
SABAH FC played to a 1-1 draw against Selangor FC in the Super League tie held at the MPSJ Stadium last Saturday.

The match saw both goals scored within a quick two-minute window during the first half. The opening goal from the home team was a curved shot from Faisal Halim, while Fergus Tierney scored the equaliser for Sabah FC in the 33rd minute, finishing a brilliant defence splitting pass from Gabriel Peres.

I am happy to see Sabah FC managed to secure a commendable result against Selangor FC, a match that many expected us to end in defeat.

The home team had plenty of opportunities, but were unable to capitalise on their chances, ultimately leading to a disappointing outcome for them.

Our custodian Damien Lim also made some very good saves to deny the home team. Apart from one quick counter attack where Fergus scored the equaliser, we were back peddling most of the time.

While the goal of every match is to emerge victorious, to end the game in a draw is still a positive outcome ahead of the second leg of the MFL Challenge Cup final this Sunday.

It reflected the team’s ability to maintain composure under pressure despite Selangor FC’s dominance, which is an encouraging sign for the final.

What is most important for us now is to turn our focus to the second-leg MFL Challenge Cup final against Penang FC.

After the first leg concluded in a tightly contested 1-1 draw in Penang, the question on every fan’s mind is whether our team can secure silverware this season.

The plus is definitely on our side as playing on home ground often provides a significant edge, and with our passionate home crowd rallying behind us, optimism is up in the air.

This final match against Penang FC is definitely not a walk in the park. My concern with our team is our ability to play as a unit largely due to injuries to key players.

The essence of a successful team lies in its ability to work together harmoniously. When teams lack coordination, frustration can build, resulting in underperformance as we did so often this season.

We have faced numerous challenges this season, leaving many fans disheartened. However, there’s a silver lining on the horizon.

I am sure supporters are rallying for a strong finish to the season, with another opportunity to clinch silverware this Sunday, I hope the team will be able to deliver the goods in front of the home supporters.
