KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor received a courtesy visit from a delegation of Sabah Oil and Gas Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (SOGDC) and its strategic partners and witnessed the exchange of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) for the proposed development of an energy hub at the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park (Sogip) at Menara Kinabalu on Monday.
The visit was held in conjunction with a proposed collaboration between SOGDC and EA Gibson as part of efforts to strengthen Sabah’s position as a regional energy hub.
The delegation, led by SOGDC Chairman Datuk Shahelmey Yahya and Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Mohd Azmir Ramli, included representatives from international partners such as Aboitiz, ACWA, EA Gibson, WEC and Green Parrot.
At the meeting, Hajiji and Shahelmey witnessed the exchange of several strategic and commercial MoUs between SOGDC and partners including ACWA Power, Aboitiz Power Ltd and WEC, outlining initial collaboration on the Energy Hub project at Sogip, which includes plans for an integrated storage and distribution hub, a feasibility study for a combined-cycle gas turbine power plant, and supporting infrastructure.
Hajiji said the initiative aligns with the State Government’s aspiration to strengthen the energy sector as a key economic driver and is expected to attract high-value investments, create employment opportunities and support long-term industrial growth in Sabah.
