Experience giving back with Dilmah Tea
Kota Kinabalu: When Merrill J. Fernando founded Dilmah Tea in Sri Lanka (1985), he built it on a principle that profit must serve humanity. Through the MJF Foundation, 15% of Dilmah’s pre-tax profits are dedicated to community service and conservation in Sri Lanka, supporting education, healthcare, and environmental preservation.

His philosophy had become the driving force behind Dilmah’s brand identity, positioning every cup of tea not only as a premium product but also as a contribution to a greater cause.

“If we do not protect nature, there will be no tea for us to enjoy. Sustainability is part of the brand’s core philosophy,” he said.

Sheraton Sabah is the only hotel in the state, and among fewer than ten nationwide to carry Dilmah’s exclusive Silver Jubilee premium tea collection  which made Sheraton’s Afternoon Tea a rare opportunity to experience a brand built on values of giving back.

The 2026 D-MAX also introduces an 8-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift across the range, including the Single Cab variant, making it the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an automatic transmission in that body style.
At the launch, guests were welcomed by Sheraton’s Director of Marketing, Tina Goh, before being introduced to the menu by Director of Food & Beverage Jammaz Yassin.

Executive Chef Ryan Poon elevated the experience with delicacies carefully paired to complement Dilmah’s teas. Hans Lau Kim Han, Dilmah’s Brand Ambassador in Malaysia, shared insights into tea’s heritage, sustainability, and artistry.

Hans explained that tea has a history of more than 5,000 years and continues to change with modern ideas. Tea is not just about adding hot water, it can be used in desserts, savoury dishes, and even for tea-smoking to add flavour to salmon.

He also shared that Dilmah teas are natural, with no artificial flavoring or preservatives. They are rich in antioxidants and can help with digestion and support the immune system.
