Kota Kinabalu: East Malaysia home-grown brand SugarBun marked a milestone with the opening of its 168th outlet, SugarBun Express at Kingfisher here on Sunday.
The outlet was officially opened by Executive Director Datuk Joseph Ambrose Lee and is operated by siblings Gideon Hon Yung Ding, 30, and Lydia Hon Jia Wei, 28, representing a second-generation venture inspired by their father’s long association with the brand.
Ambrose, who is also Managing Director of Borneo Oil Berhad, said the expansion reflects the brand’s growth strategy, with plans to open 40 more outlets over the next three years, including in Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia.
He advised the siblings on key principles in the food and beverage business, including understanding the product, preparing food upon order and maintaining hands-on management to ensure quality and sustainability.
Gideon said the decision to venture into the business was influenced by lifelong exposure to the brand, with the Kingfisher outlet, which began operations in January, receiving encouraging response from nearby residents.
