KOTA BELUD: The Sabah Lands and Surveys Department carried out an enforcement operation against illegal sand excavation and extraction at Kampung Pintasan in Kota Belud on March 5.
Its newly appointed Director, Chua Ming Ling @ Alan, said the operation followed about a week of intelligence gathering and surveillance after the department received information on suspected illegal sand extraction in the area.
He said the department’s enforcement team conducted a raid at about 9.45am at the identified location.
Chua said one CAT excavator and a 13-tonne Nissan lorry used to load sand were seized during the operation, but no arrests were made because individuals at the scene fled upon noticing the presence of enforcement officers.
He added that a police report had been lodged and an investigation paper would be opened under the provisions of the Sabah Land Ordinance (Cap. 68).
