Tuaran: Tuaran MP Datuk Seri Madius Tangau has called for the eight-year interval for reviewing parliamentary and state constituency boundaries to be clearly stated in the Federal Constitution to avoid legal ambiguity.
He said the provision specifying the eight-year period is not explicitly stated in the Constitution and should be included to prevent confusion over the timeframe required before a boundary review can be conducted.

Earlier, in a written question during a recent Dewan Rakyat sitting, Madius asked the Prime Minister when the government would implement an increase in the number of parliamentary and state assembly seats nationwide and whether Sabah and Sarawak would be prioritised.
In a written reply, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said the Election Commission carries out boundary reviews under Clause (2) of Article 113 of the Federal Constitution and according to principles and procedures set out in the Thirteenth Schedule.
She said the eight-year period for boundary review in Sarawak ended on Aug 21, 2023 and the commission is preparing recommendations, while the period for Sabah ended on Feb 21, 2025 but the process has yet to begin following the recent 17th Sabah State Election.
