KOTA KINABALU: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud (

He said discussions at a technical committee meeting on Monday indicated that the Federal Government’s position on the matter had not changed and that the issue continues to be addressed through established negotiation mechanisms.
A subcommittee has been formed to examine financial data from agencies including the Inland Revenue Board and the Customs Department, with the Ministry of Finance expected to submit further reports to support the process.
Mustapha said the Government intends to rely on verified data and technical discussions rather than speculation when determining the amount related to the entitlement.
He also urged all parties to remain calm and avoid premature conclusions as parts of the issue are currently subject to legal proceedings.
Earlier it was reported that Tuaran MP Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau said Sabah Members of Parliament and Senators are prepared to support legal action should negotiations fail to reach an agreement by the April 15 deadline set by the Kota Kinabalu High Court.
Madius said the lawmakers are united in their stand to back any court action initiated by the Sabah Law Society (SLS) if the 180-day deadline passes without resolution to ensure the implementation of Sabah’s constitutional rights.
