Chinese traders-government ties vital

LAHAD DATU: The Chinese business community must continue to be pragmatic and enterprising and maintain good rapport with the State Government for the benefit of Sabah’s economy.

Sabah Economic Advisory Council member, Tan Sri Andrew Liew Sui Fatt said Sabah has entered a new phase in its progress.

“The SMJ 2.0 roadmap launched by the new state cabinet of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has defined the development direction from 2026 to 2030 and outlined several key projects to drive economic transformation and sustained growth.

“We will be expecting a more stable and forward-looking policy environment that will continue to optimise business conditions, thus enhancing investor confidence, and promote industrial upgrading and diversification within the state.

His speech was delivered by Permanent President of Lahad Datu Chinese Chamber, Datuk Sia Chee Ming.

Liew, who is Permanent President of Sabah United Chinese Chamber of Commerce (SUCCC), described the Chinese business community as vital in Sabah’s economic development.

“We firmly believe stable and sustained economic growth must be built upon the crucial foundation of policy stability and a favourable business environment.”

He was speaking at a Grand Celebration Dinner organised by the Lahad Datu Chinese Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with Lunar New Year.

Liew said the “Year of the Horse” symbolises a spirit of striving forward, relentless progress, and courage. In the new year, we must remain steadfast and meet challenges with greater courage and stronger unity, he said.

He said the Chamber not only has united the business community and actively promoted business development, but also under the leadership of Tan Cheng Teng been promoting Chinese education, advancing charitable causes and preserving Chinese culture,

He congratulated the Chamber for again being appointed by the National Registrar Department as Assistant Registrar of Marriages, ending 5 years of agony for non-Muslim couples to go to Kota Kinabalu for marriage registration. Nearly a thousand people attended the banquet.
