PAITAN: Flood relief operations in Sugut and Paitan are now centralised at KDCA Paitan, which has been designated as the main hub for the distribution of essential supplies to affected victims.
State Education, Science and Technology Minister and Sugut Assemblyman Datuk James Ratib said the Sugut Assemblyman Service Centre has coordinated the distribution of food aid, used clothing (bundle) and new garments to ensure victims’ basic needs are met.

He said the centralised hub at KDCA Paitan enables aid to be organised systematically before being delivered to affected villages and temporary evacuation centres (PPS), ensuring that no victim is left out.
Since the first day of the floods, triggered by continuous heavy rain that cut off several road access routes and forced hundreds to evacuate, James has personally led relief efforts on the ground.
He coordinated operations with security and rescue agencies, including the Royal Malaysia Police, the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department and the Malaysia Civil Defence Force, to ensure that evacuation efforts and the delivery of assistance were carried out smoothly and efficiently.
To strengthen operational coordination, he arranged for four Starlink satellite units to be deployed to flood-affected areas. The temporary internet connectivity has improved communication between rescue teams, operation centres and PPS, while also enabling victims to contact their families.
James also inspected affected villages to assess damage to roads and public infrastructure. Special attention was given to schools impacted by the floods to ensure recovery efforts can begin promptly once floodwaters recede.
He stressed that the safety and welfare of the people remain the top priority, with all machinery instructed to remain on the ground to monitor developments and ensure assistance reaches all affected communities regardless of location.
James expressed appreciation to government agencies, security forces, volunteers and local communities for their strong commitment and cooperation throughout the flood relief operations, noting that close collaboration is key to ensuring effective evacuation, rescue and post-flood recovery efforts.
