KOTA KINABALU: Flood mitigation plans for Kampung Ansip in Sook are still pending federal funding approval under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), the State Legislative Assembly was told.
Assistant Minister Datuk Ruslan Muharam said the Sungai Pegalan project was not shortlisted but will be resubmitted, adding it would take five years to complete if approved.
In the meantime, short-term measures such as drainage maintenance and upkeep of the Kampung Ansip flood retention pond have been carried out.
Meanwhile, Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar said sustainable practices are being enforced to reduce flood risks, including stricter land development guidelines, preservation of river buffer zones, and erosion control measures.
He added several rubber plantation projects are ongoing, with Sabah’s Rubber Industry Board (LIGS) recognised for sustainable forest management.
