Kota Kinabalu: Putatan Umno Chief Jeffery Nor Mohamad proposed that the newly-announced 15 per cent electricity tariff increase in Sabah be implemented in two phases.
He said the recommendation aims to provide a six-month adjustment period, incorporating rebates for eligible consumers to mitigate the immediate impact of rising living costs and prevent a sudden spike in the price of essential goods.
Jeffery, a former board member of Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB), acknowledged that the rate hike is necessary to ensure the sustainability of power services in the state.
He said the average base tariff had risen from 34.25 cents to 39.70 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
