KUDAT: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency detained a cargo boat carrying petrol and diesel without a valid permit during an operation in Kuala Kaindangan waters, Pitas, on Thursday.

Kudat Maritime Zone Director Hasbullah Omar said the vessel was detected by a Maritime Malaysia patrol boat during routine operations before further inspection found it was transporting controlled goods without proper documentation.

He said checks showed the cargo boat was carrying petrol and diesel estimated to be worth RM5,000.

The boat was operated by a 60-year-old local skipper and a 38-year-old male crew member who allegedly failed to produce documents related to the transportation of controlled goods when requested by enforcement officers.
