3,617 victims evacuated as of noon in Sabah

Kota Kinabalu: The number of flood victims in Sabah has increased to 3,617 as of noon today, compared to 2,288 this morning.

The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat, in a statement, said the victims, involving 1,265 families, are being accommodated at 17 relief centres (PPS) in five districts.

Tenom, the latest district to be hit by the floods,  recorded the highest number of victims, totalling 1,848 people (647 families) at eight PPS.

In Beaufort, the number of victims increased to 948 people (292 families) compared to 945 people this morning. They are being accommodated at the Selagon Permanent Evacuation Centre (PPK) and the PPS at the Dewan DUN Banir.

Membakut also recorded a slight increase in victims, from 351 people this morning to 321, involving 125 families,  at two PPS.

Meanwhile, two PPS in Pitas, which housed 528 victims this morning, are now closed as the victims have returned to their respective homes.

As for the Sook and Sipitang districts, there is no change in the number of victims. Sook remained with 79 victims (25 families), while Sipitang remained with 421 victims (176 families).

Overall, the number of villages affected by the flood disaster recorded a slight increase to 146 villages compared to 140 villages this morning.
