LABUAN: A mini market operator here was compounded by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) after being found guilty of breaching price labelling regulations during an inspection carried out recently.
The action was taken under Ops Pantau 2026, an enforcement operation being actively conducted throughout the fasting month to ensure traders comply with trade laws and to protect consumer interests.
Inspectors found that the premises had failed to display cash selling price tags on goods exhibited for sale to customers, a violation under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering (Price Marking for Goods and Charges for Services) Order 2020, enforced under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.
The compound was issued on the spot after the trader admitted to the offence.
The Ministry, in a statement, said failure to display clear price tags is not only unlawful but can also cause confusion among consumers and undermine transparency in transactions.
The Ministry said individuals convicted of the offence face fines of up to RM50, 000, imprisonment of not more than two years, or both. Repeat offenders face stiffer penalties of up to RM100, 000 in fines, imprisonment not exceeding three years or both.
For companies, the fine can reach up to RM100, 000 for a first offence and up to RM250, 000 for subsequent violations.
Traders are reminded to comply with price labelling regulations at all times and to ensure price tags are clearly displayed and easily visible to avoid enforcement action.
The Ministry added that inspections will be intensified periodically throughout the festive season to ensure consumer rights continue to be protected.
