TAWAU: Benta Wawasan Sdn Bhd (BWSB) has contributed consistent dividends to Yayasan Sabah throughout its three decades of establishment, supporting the implementation of welfare, education and social development programmes in the State.

BWSB Chairman Datuk Abdul Karim Wahid said last year the company recorded a net gross profit exceeding RM100 million, thereby enabling it to channel significant dividends to the parent organisation.

This performance, he said, proves the company’s strength and resilience despite facing global economic challenges.

In a further achievement, BWSB received international recognition through a branding award organised by the Singapore-based organisation, The BrandLaureate Awards 2025/2026, a significant milestone coinciding with the company’s 30th anniversary this year.

“This recognition serves as a catalyst for the company to continue enhancing its excellence and reputation as a high-performing State Government subsidiary. We are very honoured to receive this award and will continue to strive to maintain standards of excellence in the future,” he added.

Regarding the State Government’s recommendation for government-linked companies (GLCs) to continue improving performance, Abdul Karim said his party always emphasises the principles of good corporate governance and continuous performance improvement.

He explained that as a plantation company, commodity prices are heavily influenced by global market factors; therefore, the company’s primary strategy is to increase productivity and operational efficiency to ensure sustainable profits.

“We will continue to strengthen our competitiveness and ensure the company’s performance remains high to provide the best returns to Yayasan Sabah and the people of Sabah,” he told the media during the BWSB Corporate Iftar (Breaking of Fast) Ceremony at Dewan Sri Tawau Sin Onn, here.

At the event, BWSB presented contributions totalling RM21,000 to seven tahfiz (Quranic) centres around the Tawau area, in addition to assisting the asnaf (underprivileged), single mothers and orphans.

He said the ceremony is an annual company tradition, a sign of gratitude and concern for the local community, while taking the opportunity to share blessings with the less fortunate.

He added that the company remains committed to fulfilling its corporate social responsibility by celebrating Ramadan through the hosting of iftar ceremonies and the distribution of donations to those in need.
