KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 968 schools in Sabah were identified as having dilapidated buildings as of Dec 31, 2025, according to the Education Ministry.
The Ministry stated this in a written reply in the Dewan Rakyat to Tuaran MP Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau, who had asked for the number of school buildings declared unsafe by the Public Works Department (PWD) nationwide, including those under the Tuaran District Education Office.
It said that as of Dec 31, 2025, 968 schools were identified with buildings categorised under Scale 7, adding that the data is dynamic and subject to change from time to time.
Of the total, 30 schools in the Tuaran parliamentary constituency were identified as having buildings in the Scale 7 category, including SMK Tamparuli and SMK Tenghilan.
The Ministry also found that buildings at SMK Tun Fuad Stephens are categorised under Scale 6, which require upgrading and maintenance works but are not classified as being at the most critical dilapidated level.
