KOTA KINABALU: Society for Equality, Respect And Trust for All Sabah (Serata) expressed deep concern over the rising cases of femicide in the city, following the discovery of a dismembered woman’s body at Indah Permai on Thursday.
The group also criticised the sharing of photos and videos of the victim’s body on messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, describing it as disrespectful and insensitive.
Its Vice President Robert Hii said the increasing frequency of gender-based violence had been apparent even before the Covid-19 pandemic.
He cited recent cases in Sabah, including a man who pleaded guilty to stabbing his former girlfriend to death in 2023, and another who reportedly set his wife on fire in Keningau in February 2024.
“These are just two of the many examples of cases in Sabah that can be found online.
