SANDAKAN: Sandakan urgently needs for a new tourism jetty to be built so as to facilitate the movement of tourists to resort islands around the district.
Sandakan Member of Parliament Vivian Wong said many tourists heading to island resorts currently have to board boats from a jetty near the Central Market or beside the post office.
She said that, coupled with the exclusive management of the jetty, the situation also raises concerns over tourist safety.
“Sandakan has significant potential in eco-tourism, historical and cultural heritage, as well as biodiversity. As such, the government should seriously consider the proposal to build a new tourism jetty in Sandakan.
