LABUAN: Labuan deserves to have both the Mariner and the International Convention Centre projects without having to scrap the approved RM38 million mariner for the centre.
“If Kuala Lumpur could have multiple mega projects valued at millions of ringgit, why not Labuan get a bite of the pie, since the island is also an important federal territory, a financial centre, and depends on tourism to keep its local economy ticking?
“Besides, when the island was federalised in 1984, it was without any compensation paid but based on high hopes that in return Labuan would prosper with a robust economic pace.
“Both the mariner and the convention centre developments are aligned with these expectations,” said Chief of Labuan Women’s Affairs Association (Hawa) Fauziah Datuk Din.
