Kota Kinabalu: Electrical equipment without Sirim safety labels valued at more than RM300,000 were confiscated by the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) from two premises here.
The first raid of its kind involved 23 ECoS officers, assisted by four officers from Sirim Berhad as the Conformity Assessment Body recognised by ECoS.
The operation was conducted to ensure that electrical equipment complies with legal requirements under Regulation 107 of the Electricity Supply Regulations 2024 (PPBE 2024).
ECoS Chief Operating Officer Ir. Ts. Ridwan Saham said the operation followed the issuance of a Prohibition Notice in December 2025.
“However, several premises were still found to be non-compliant with the notice and continued to sell electrical equipment that does not meet legal requirements.”
As provided under sub-regulation 110(2) of the PPBE 2024, any party found guilty of selling consumer electrical equipment that does not comply with legal requirements may, upon conviction, be fined up to RM20,000 or imprisoned not exceeding two years, or both.
“ECoS emphasises that enforcement actions will continue to be intensified from time to time to ensure consumer safety is always protected and to ensure that all parties comply with the laws in Sabah,” said Ridwan.
