TAWAU: A 25-year-old man was killed in an accident on Jalan Tawau-Bombalai, near Bulatan Jambatan Putih, here, on Tuesday afternoon.

The victim, who was riding a moped, was reported to have been struck by the right rear tyre of a quarry lorry driven by a 34-year-old man.

Deputy District Police Chief Supt Champin Piuh said the motorcyclist was travelling from Felda Umas towards the town centre, while the lorry was heading to Gudang Empat from a quarry in Batu 9 along Jalan Apas.

“Initial investigations found that after passing the Bulatan Jambatan Putih, the lorry continued into Jalan Tawau-Bombalai on a wet road following light rain.

“The motorcycle is believed to have lost control before skidding into the opposite lane,” he said, Wednesday.

The impact caused the rider to be thrown into the oncoming lane, where he was hit by the rear tyre of the quarry lorry, resulting in severe injuries.
