SANDAKAN: A 55-year-old man died while his 17-year-old daughter was injured after the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in a three-vehicle collision at Jalan Labuk, Batu 9, here, at about 6.40am on Wednesday during rainy weather.
The deceased, identified as Ranchanna Hujang, was pronounced dead due to internal injuries while receiving treatment at Duchess of Kent (DOK) Hospital here after being rushed there following the incident.

District police chief ACP George Abd Raman said the victim’s daughter sustained a fractured left shoulder and is receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Initial investigations found the crash involved a Nissan UD lorry, a Proton Iriz and a Toyota Avanza, with the 35-year-old lorry driver from Mile 8 heading towards Mile 32 believed to have failed to stop when approaching a roundabout before hitting the rear of the Proton Iriz and subsequently entering the right lane and colliding with the Toyota Avanza.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, with the lorry driver detained and to be remanded to assist investigations, while all three vehicles were seized for further inspection, including tests at Puspakom and the Chemistry Department, and the body sent to the DOK Forensic Unit for a post-mortem scheduled on Thursday.
