TELUPID: Water supply disruptions in Telupid are due to weaknesses in the distribution system and heavy reliance on generator sets, not a shortage of water sources, said Sabah Works and Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam.
He said low pressure is caused by existing pipes that lack sufficient diameter to meet current demand.

“The water is actually sufficient, but the distribution system is the problem. Pipes need to be upgraded so pressure reaches homes and premises at proper levels,” he said.
The ministry will discuss with Sabah Electricity the possibility of connecting the treatment plant directly to the power grid about four kilometres away, which is cheaper and more stable than relying on generators.
Further talks with relevant agencies will detail costs and long-term solutions.
During the visit, he also inspected several water treatment plants and officiated the new JKR Telupid office building on Tuesday.
