Kota Kinabalu: Seventeen-year-old Fabian Nasip from Inanam has made a full recovery after undergoing urgent heart surgery funded by the Society for the Sabah Heart Fund (SOSHF).
The successful procedure marked SOSHF’s 734th lifesaving case since the foundation’s establishment in 1981.
Fabian was diagnosed with chronic rheumatic heart disease at the age of 12 despite having no family history of heart disease.
His condition worsened recently and was classified as urgent, requiring immediate specialist surgical intervention.
Due to the complexity of the case, Fabian was referred to the University Malaya Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur for treatment.
He was admitted on Jan 23, 2026, underwent corrective heart surgery and was discharged on Feb 5, 2026, following a smooth recovery.
SOSHF sponsored Fabian’s medical costs and provided support for travel, accommodation and coordination throughout the treatment period.
Fabian and his mother returned safely to Kota Kinabalu on Feb 7, 2026.
They were welcomed on arrival at Kota Kinabalu International Airport by SOSHF president Datuk Eva Susau and committee members.
“Every child deserves a chance to live and thrive. Fabian’s recovery reflects the power of compassion, teamwork, and community support,” said Eva.
