MELBOURNE: The Sabah State Government should put in place welfare and reintegration support for Murut workers in Australia employed in agriculture, livestock and factory sectors, said Malaysian Murut Cultural and Welfare Organisation (PKKMM) president Raymond Ahuar.
He said many Murut workers abroad contribute diligently to foreign economies while remaining emotionally and socially tied to Sabah, but face physically demanding work, separation from family and high living costs.

Raymond said these workers also contend with temporary employment status and limited access to social protection, warranting structured welfare support mechanisms from the State Government.
He added that Murut workers overseas should be viewed as a development asset, as many have gained practical skills, modern technological knowledge and experience in large-scale agriculture and livestock systems.
Raymond proposed that the state government consider programmes providing start-up capital, grants, further training and technical guidance for returning Murut workers to venture into agriculture, livestock or agro-based enterprises in Sabah.
