SANDAKAN: A woman was killed and two others injured in an accident involving a Proton Saga in front of Livingston Hotel, Jalan Utara, early Tuesday.
Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station chief Assistant Superintendent Jimmy Lagung said an emergency call was received at 6.01am, with fire engines arriving three minutes later.
He said the Proton Saga is believed to have skidded before crashing into a tree, leaving three victims trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters extricated all victims using specialised equipment.
One female passenger, identified as Siti Madina Hassan, 51, was confirmed dead at the scene by medical personnel from Duchess of Kent Hospital. Her body was handed over to the police for further action.
The other victims, driver Shahrul Mohammad Basri, 26, and female passenger Janebabe M Macabio, 27, sustained injuries. Both received initial treatment from
Emergency Medical Rescue Services before being taken to Duchess of Kent Hospital for further care.
The operation concluded at 7.10am after the scene was declared safe and under control.
