TAWAU: The State Government plans to develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-based state religious secondary school (Sman) on the remaining 20-acre site next to Apas Balung State Religious School (SAN) as a strategic move to strengthen Islamic education alongside technological advancement.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the plan would be coordinated through collaboration between the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (Muis) and the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jheains).

He said the initiative reflected the State Government’s continued commitment to empowering Islamic education and developing religious institutions.
Hajiji said this when officiating the Ihya Ramadhan programme themed “Malam Mencari Kekasih” at the Tawau Community Hall here on Sunday.
Earlier, he visited and officiated SAN Apas Balung, which he said made history as Malaysia’s first SAN under Jheains to introduce AI-based learning supported by smart white boards, in line with the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) focus on human capital development.
