Kota Kinabalu: Two delivery drivers were charged in the Magistrate’s Court, here, with three counts of trafficking dangerous drugs involving a total of 579.22 kilogrammes.
Fung Pun Fui and Leong Sik Siang, both aged 42, appeared before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin via Zoom on Friday.

No plea was recorded from them, as their plea would only be recorded in the High Court once the case is transferred there.
On the first count, they are accused of jointly trafficking methamphetamine weighing 314,968 grammes at about 4.10pm on Jan 20 this year, inside a Toyota van at a house in Taman Landmark, Penampang.
On the second count, they are alleged to have jointly trafficked 233,082 grammes of methamphetamine in a house at the same place and time.
On the third count, the duo are accused of jointly trafficking 31,170 grammes of 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) in a house at the same location and time.
Each charge was framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.
If convicted, they face the death penalty or life imprisonment and 12 strokes of the cane.
Inspector Yusdi Basri, prosecuting, applied for another mention date pending the chemist’s reports and offered no bail, as the charge against the accused carries no provision for bail.
Marilyn fixed March 31 for mention and ordered the duo to be remanded further. The accused were represented by counsel Azhier Farhan.
In another similar case, a married couple were charged with trafficking 1,619.45 grammes of syabu.
No plea was taken from e-hailing driver Lian Cheng Chou, 36, and undocumented housewife Siti Noraisyah Toud, 23, who appeared before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali.
The couple were accused of committing the offence on Jan 20 this year, at 4pm, in a house at Taman Perdana, Jalan Bundusan, Penampang.
They were also charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the DDA, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Akaash Singh applied for another mention date pending the chemist’s reports and did not offer bail.
The court set March 27 for mention and ordered the couple, who were also represented by counsel Azhier Farhan, to be further remanded.
