SANDAKAN: The Aerodrome Emergency Exercise (Ex-Buazo) 2026 serves as an ideal platform to enhance communication, coordination and cooperation between Malaysia Airports, stakeholders and all agencies involved in ensuring emergency management readiness at Sandakan Airport.
Sandakan Municipal Council President Walter Kenson said this when officiating Ex-Buazo 2026, organised by Malaysia Airports Sdn Bhd Sandakan, at the Libaran Multipurpose Hall, Mile 7, on Wednesday.
“This exercise is vital for testing the efficiency of communication systems and coordination among all agencies involved in handling emergency situations at the airport.
“Effective communication and organised action are essential to ensure every emergency response is carried out swiftly and accurately, in line with the Aerodrome Emergency Plan (AEP) and established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs),” he said.
Walter also emphasised that the exercise helps foster closer working relationships and strengthen mutual understanding among agencies, particularly when dealing with high-risk emergency situations.
He said strong inter-agency cooperation is a key element in ensuring emergency management is carried out effectively and in an integrated manner.
The exercise also provides an opportunity for all agencies to test their readiness and capabilities in handling air crises or disasters, should a real incident occur in the future.
“The experience and evaluations gained from this exercise can be used to improve existing procedures and further refine the aerodrome emergency plan.
“These continuous efforts are important in enhancing public safety and operational efficiency at Sandakan Airport,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to the organisers and all participating agencies for their commitment and dedication in making Ex-Buazo 2026 a success, stressing that safety and the saving of lives remain the top priority.
