SANDAKAN MP Vivian Wong
(pic) accused the Federal Government of moving too slowly on basic infrastructure projects in Sabah, with delays said to be putting public safety at risk.
She said large allocations announced for federal roads, water supply and energy had yet to translate into tangible improvements on the ground.
“Sandakan remained heavily dependent on these allocations as the Sandakan–Telupid Federal Road continued to pose serious safety risks to road users,” she said during the 15th Parliament Dewan Rakyat sitting, recently.
She highlighted non-functioning street lights, potholes and deteriorating road conditions, particularly along stretches near Sabah Hotel.
She cited a “sick project” along the Sandakan Federal Road which she said was declared problematic by the Public Works Department in February last year but had seen no progress since.
“Flood mitigation projects were being implemented inconsistently while power supply disruptions continued to affect industries and investor confidence,” she said.
Vivian emphasised that allocations announced without clear implementation timelines amounted to promises that were repeatedly delayed.
