Kota Kinabalu: A 23-year-old man was charged tentatively in the Magistrate’s Court here on Thursday with two counts of drug trafficking and one count of drug possession.
Unemployed Syahmirul Syahrir, who appeared before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin via Zoom, was accused of trafficking 642.7gm of 3,4 Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) on Jan 14, this year, at 11.35pm, in a room of a shophouse building, in Sadong Jaya, Karamunsing here.
On the second count, Syahmirul allegedly had 37.3gm of ketamine on the same day and same place, which was framed under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Syahmirul, who was brought before Magistrate Dzul Elmi Yunus also via Zoom, allegedly trafficking 71.3gm of MDMA on Jan 15, this year, at 2.38am, in front of the SESB substation in Kg Air here.
No plea was recorded from Syahmirul after the trafficking charges were read out to him.
Each of the trafficking charges framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a punishment of either the death penalty or life in prison and whipping with a minimum of 15 strokes.
The prosecution applied for another mention pending the chemist’s reports.
Marilyn fixed March 30 for mention of the cases before her, while Dzul Elmy set March 25 for mention.
Syahmirul was ordered to be further remanded pending the dates as the trafficking charges against him have no provision for bail.
Inspectors Yusdi Basri and Mohamad Hamidi Mohamad Hamzah appeared for the prosecution.
