Kota Kinabalu: Papar has been selected to host the launch of the Sabah-level Kaamatan Festival 2026 on May 1, this year.
The decision was made during the first meeting of the State Kaamatan Festival 2026, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister I and Works and Utilities (KKRU) Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, here, Tuesday.

The meeting discussed preparations and early planning for the State’s biggest annual cultural celebration, which is held throughout May.
Joachim said the Kaamatan Festival is an important platform for preserving Sabah’s cultural heritage and strengthening unity and community spirit across the State.
He said Kaamatan emphasises solidarity as well as efforts to safeguard the customs and traditions passed down through generations.
According to him, the festival is not only a celebration of the harvest but also a symbol of harmony and the rich cultural diversity of Sabah that continues to be upheld by its people.
Also present were Assistant Minister I Datuk Limus Jury, KKRU Permanent Secretary Datuk Ridhwan Roger Linus, Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA) Secretary-General Datuk Suman Yasambun, KDCA Treasurer Datuk Joseph Paulus Lantip, district officers, department heads and organising committee members.
