LAHAD DATU: In response to the accident involving a sewer hole at Jalan Pantai on Friday, the Lahad Datu District Office has issued an immediate order to enhance safety measures at the construction site near the roads.
District Officer Firuz Idzualdeen @ Benetty Mohd Dzul said additional measures will be implemented to improve visibility and provide clearer guidance for road users.
This includes the installation of more barriers and signboards to alert motorists about ongoing construction.
“While barriers have already been set up around the sewer holes, further steps are necessary to ensure the safety of road users,” Firuz said.
He said these actions are aimed at increasing caution, particularly in areas with active construction.
The District Officer noted that the accident may have been caused by several factors, including weather conditions and driving behaviour.
Therefore, he urged cooperation from all parties, particularly road users, to make the safety measures effective.
Drivers are also encouraged to adhere to road rules and exercise caution, especially in areas with ongoing construction work.
“I’ve contacted the relevant parties and ordered immediate action to prevent any future incidents, like the one on Friday. Our measures are focused on prevention and reinforcing safety,” Firuz added.
He also said further assessments of the location will be conducted to improve safety protocols.
