KUDAT: Two elderly spouses were killed in a house fire that destroyed a non-permanent two-storey home in Kampung Lausan Batu 4 here on Friday night.

The Fire and Rescue Department received the call at 11.58pm on Thursday and arrived at the scene at 12.36am after travelling six kilometres.

Firefighters faced access difficulties due to a narrow bridge and low-hanging electrical cables, and conducted extinguishing operations using a 400-foot hose line with two nozzles supplied by the fire engine’s water tank.

The bodies of a 74-year-old man and his 73-year-old wife were found in a bedroom at about 1am, with the fire brought under control at 1.30am and operations ending at 4.47am after the remains were handed over to police for further action.
