Man acquitted of meth trafficking in Sandakan

SANDAKAN: A local man, Mohd Fadzli Masli, 42, was acquitted of trafficking 347.5 grams of methamphetamine two years after his arrest.

High Court Judge Saiful Azian Mokhtar ruled on Tuesday that the defence had raised reasonable doubt during the trial.

Fadzli was initially charged on 5 February 2024 near Jalan Sapi Nangoh, Beluran, under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment with a minimum of 12 strokes if not sentenced to death.

The trial spanned multiple sessions from February to September 2025, with the defence calling 10 witnesses.

The court found a break in the chain of evidence during the defence stage.
