KINABATANGAN: A newborn baby boy was found abandoned inside a box at an oil palm plantation here by a plantation worker on Saturday

Kinabatangan District Police Chief Supt Ravi Duraisamy said police received information at about 7.27pm regarding the discovery of the infant at a plantation here.
“A plantation worker found the baby while working and immediately informed the management,” Ravi said.
The infant was first taken to the plantation clinic for initial treatment before being transferred to Kinabatangan Hospital for further medical care.
Initial examination showed the baby was estimated to be between three to five days old and weighed about 2.4 kilograms.
The infant was reported to be in stable condition with no physical abnormalities or injuries. The baby will be referred to Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan for
continued monitoring and follow-up action by welfare authorities.
Ravi said preliminary investigations found that the location where the baby was discovered had no closed-circuit television and so far no eyewitnesses have come forward with information.
No arrests have been made. Police are actively tracking down the individual or individuals involved in the case.

Police said public cooperation is greatly appreciated to ensure the continued safety and welfare of the community.
Instances of babies being found abandoned has also been reported over the past week. Earlier this month, a newborn baby boy was found abandoned in the women’s toilet of a petrol station in Bongawan.
In mid-December last year, a newborn baby boy was found abandoned at the Likas Bay Public Park in Kota Kinabalu.
The babies in both cases were reported to be in safe and without visible injuries.
