BEAUFORT: The District Office will continue to closely monitor the implementation of erosion repair projects at several locations along the Padas River that were damaged due to flooding, said District Officer Mohd Nazri Ajun.
Among the main repair works is the restoration of a riverbank slope stretching approximately 250 metres along Jalan Binunuk, as the area was severely affected by flooding and strong river currents from the Padas River.

“If the repairs are not carried out, it will affect residents’ access to town, and immediate repairs are necessary as the situation poses a greater risk to the community,” he said while speaking to reporters during a recent site visit to the landslide repair project at Kampung Binunuk.
If left unrepaired, the damage would impact residents, as they would be unable to travel to Beaufort town or other locations.
Nazri said that since last year, discussions have been held with the Public Works Department (JKR) to take immediate action to repair the damaged slope along the 250-metre stretch.
He added that the slope repair project is being implemented by JKR Beaufort under the Village Infrastructure Development programme, with an allocation of RM5.5 million.
The collapse of the slope is linked to frequent flooding and prolonged heavy rainfall, which have caused stronger river currents and worsened the condition of the riverbank.
In addition, five to six other locations along the Padas River have been identified as critical areas. Residents are advised to remain vigilant, especially during unpredictable weather conditions, as erosion and flooding may occur during periods of heavy rain.
