SEMPORNA: Forty-six individuals were detained during a two-day integrated operation targeting illegal immigrants (PTI) in the district.
Semporna District Police Chief Supt Tan Hiap Wah said the operation, conducted on Wednesday and Thursday, involved the Immigration Department (JIM), National Registration Department (JPN), Semporna District Council, and District Office.
The raids covered several villages and Semporna town to curb illegal entry, protect public safety, and boost confidence among locals and tourists.
“A total of 354 individuals were inspected, and after document screening by JIM and JPN, 46 were arrested for lacking valid identification. We also detained two individuals found in possession of drugs,” he said.
Tan emphasised that such operations should continue regularly to safeguard public interest and enforce national laws.
Police remain committed to ongoing integrated enforcement to ensure the safety and well-being of the local community.
