Hunter mistakenly shoots cousin in Ranau
RANAU: A 20-year-old local was injured in both legs and arms after being accidentally shot by his 37-year-old cousin, who mistook him for a deer while hunting.

The victim, receiving treatment at Ranau Hospital, initially claimed he was injured when a bullet struck a rock and exploded.

An X-ray later revealed injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.

After police were informed, the truth was revealed. The case detail recorded that the incident occurred in a river area in Kg Waluhu Ranau at about 3pm last Wednesday.

On Thursday, a team of officers and police personnel from the Ranau IPD Criminal Investigation Division arrested the suspect in Kampung Wahulu Ranau Sabah.

Since the investigation could not be completed within 24 hours, the police requested to remand the suspect for four days.

The case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Arms Act relating to the offence of possessing, carrying, or using a firearm without a valid license or permit, and if convicted, can be punished with imprisonment of up to 7 years, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.
