TELUPID: The Sabah Government remains committed to supporting the celebration of major festivals as a platform to strengthen unity and harmony among the state’s multi-racial and multi-faith communities, said Deputy Chief MInister cum Works and Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam.
He said Sabahans were fortunate that festivals such as Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, Deepavali and Christmas are consistently celebrated together, regardless of race, religion or political differences.

“These celebrations are not merely religious or cultural events, but a reflection of Sabah’s strength, where people of different backgrounds can still sit together and share a table,” he said.
Joachim was speaking at the opening of the Telupid constituency-level Christmas Open House 2025 and New Year 2026 celebration at Dewan IPS Telupid on Thursday, where he stressed that unity remains the key to preserving social harmony.
Earlier, Telupid assemblyman Datuk Jonnybone Kurum called on all parties to set aside political differences after elections and work together to develop the district, describing Sabah’s peaceful and tolerant society as one of its defining strengths.
