SANDAKAN: A RM2.4 million closed-house broiler farming project in Bukit Garam is expected to generate steady income for some 3,000 members of the Kinabatangan Farmers’ Organisation (PPK) while strengthening poultry supply in the East Coast.
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the high-impact project, approved earlier this year and scheduled for implementation under Rolling Plan 1 (RP1) 2026, reflects efforts to translate national policy into tangible benefits at the local level.

He said the facility, with a capacity of 30,000 chickens per cycle and up to four cycles annually, is projected to record an estimated RM2.75 million in gross yearly revenue while contributing to the country’s self-sufficiency ratio for poultry.
Mohamad said the project adopts modern farming features including a closed-house system, smart farming and IoT-based temperature and operational monitoring, supported by complete infrastructure such as farm roads, stable water supply and electricity.
He said the ministry aims to replicate the model due to its high return on investment of nearly 28 per cent, noting that it would raise farmers’ living standards through dividends and job opportunities, and was speaking after launching the Sentuhan Agro Madani @ Kinabatangan programme on Thursday.
