Tuaran: Nominated Assemblyman Datuk Abdul Kassim Razali said the Tilawah and Hafazan Al-Quran Competition (MTHQ) plays a key role in fostering Quran appreciation and spiritual reflection as Ramadan approaches.
Speaking at the opening of the MTHQ South West Coast Level 2026 on Monday, he said the event is not just a competition, but a platform to strengthen Islamic teachings and build connections with the Holy Scripture.
“Ramadan is a month of mercy, blessings and forgiveness, where Muslims are encouraged to increase recitation, reflection, and appreciation of the Quran,” he said.
Abdul Kassim added that the State Government continues to support religious programs like MTHQ and to strengthen Quranic educational institutions, including religious schools and tahfiz centres.
He also noted that the competition highlights the beauty of the Quran’s language while encouraging participants to apply its teachings in daily life.
Nashraf Ideen Nahar from Putatan and Nur Faten Izzati Rabilin from Papar were crowned champions and will represent the West Coast Division at the State-level competition.
