TAWAU: A foreigner was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill his mother-in-law at Kampung Haji Matahir, Jalan Merotai on Friday.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspect was believed to have acted aggressively in a room and issued death threats, even threatening to poison the victim.
“The incident was reported to have happened at noon when the victim, a 61-year-old local woman, was having a meal at her house,” he said.
The son-in-law’s actions made the victim fear for her safety and that of her family, prompting her to lodge a police report at the Bombalai Police Station.
Following the report, a police team conducted an operation to track down the suspect and apprehended him at about 5.22pm on the same day the incident was reported.
“A check on the suspect, who is in his 30s, also revealed that his identification documents had expired,” he said.
Jasmin said police are investigating the case under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
He said police would not compromise on any form of threats or violence, particularly those involving the safety of family members.
“We hope the public will come forward immediately to report such incidents so that action can be taken to prevent untoward incidents,” he said.
