KOTA MARUDU: Member of Parliament Datuk Wetrom Bahanda estimates RM1 million will be needed to repair infrastructure — particularly the road and the bridge linking Kampung Sungoi Laut and Kampung Sungoi Darat — which has cut off access and affected more than 200 residents, following the recent floods.

“This problem must be resolved urgently. Some have been cut off from access to town, clinics, schools and other essential services. We will apply to the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) regarding this matter,” he said.

He said the previous allocation for the road construction also came under the Ministry.

“However, due to the extent of the damage, we need to submit a new application,” he said when visiting the affected area.

Kota Kinabalu: KOTA KINABALU: Fiesta Mega Raya (FMR) 2026 is set to be the largest and most prestigious Hari Raya celebration in Sabah, taking place from March 7 to 18, at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), here.
He hoped the repair and reconstruction of the damaged bridge would be carried out using a more durable structure than the previous one.

“After this, we propose the relevant parties, including the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS), the Department of Environment, as well as the State and Federal Governments, allow efforts to clean or deepen the river in the village area, including appointing developers, if necessary,” he said.

He said the riverbed is now filled with rocks, causing the river level to be almost the same as the road level, unlike in the past when it was much deeper.

“However, we will seek opinions and approval from the relevant authorities,” he added.
